Truth or Dare

Truth: Favorite Genre?YA or adult?

Dare: I dare you to read a book outside your comfort zone.

My Truth

Fantasy used to be my favorite, but now I love Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance. Adult or YA, doesn't matter. However, over the past few years, I've been reading less and less YA and more adult books. Maybe the romance is more satisfying because it actually goes somewhere. Maybe the graphic content and dark, gritty elements appeal to me. Mostly though, I like the characters and the complex plots.

As I've looked over my reads from last and so far this year, I'm wondering about trying my hand at writing some adult stories . . . once I finish what I've already committed to.

My Dare

Books I've read that were outside my comfort zone:

Horror has never been something that interested me and likely never will. I was / am prone to nightmares, and with my vivid imagination, scary books and me just don't mix.

But this book didn't scare me, and I really loved the perspectives from the mom, dad, and child in this book.

And even though I handled this story, I still have no intention of reading this book again or any more like it.

Darkfever and the other books in the Fever series (by Karen Marie Moning) shocked my senses . . . and made me blush. But wow, what a great book.

I'll be checking out more of her books.

But with a mother on the lam, the girl he loves about to take her place in the Mob, and new secrets coming to light, the line between what’s right and what’s wrong becomes increasingly blurred. When the Feds ask Cassel to do the one thing he said he would never do again, he needs to sort out what’s a con and what’s truth. We just got this book from the library! A year of waiting and anticipation, and of course, my husband gets to read it first.

He claims that I tell him all the juicy tidbits if I read it first. Totally not my fault that I have an eidetic memory and can still see the words on the page as I try to sum it up. Totally not my fault that I am not any good at summing up.

Totally not my fault that I gave away most of the plot line of the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. When I started talking about the book, I didn't realize I would be asking him to read it.

Anyway, I've been very excited about this next book. I haven't read any reviews yet, but I loved the first two books in this series. When I'm done reading the hardback, I'll likely get the book again as an audiobook.

Have you read this book / series yet? Are you a Holly Black fan? Do you like alternate history books?

Truth: Favorite Color? Why

Dare: I dare you to draw a picture in your favorite colors and post it on your blog. Or find some beautiful photos featuring your favorite color.

My Truth

My favorite color seems to change with the seasons. Winter, I like browns, blues, and burgundies. Summer, I like greens, blues, and purples. Earthy colors all year round.

No wonder I like to dye my hair red. It goes well with the greens and browns.

I once read a book about the colors of people's auras: What Color Is Your Aura?: Personality Spectrums for Understanding and Growth. You take a personality test and the book tells you what color your aura is and what that means about who you are. Being a people watcher, I've learned two things:

1) People have a tendency to reach for the colors that match / complement their aura color.
2) The aura color often affects your personal coloring. Or maybe your personal, physical coloring affects your aura.

So knowing your favorite color is a good start to knowing who you are on the inside.

Found this picture on WeHeartIt.com. I think it shows the real me in color.

Found my keys in a book

I confess to being lost in a book for the last week or two. Or three. And my most recent read must've made my mind a bit hazy.

Just a bit.

Because I couldn't find my keys for 5 days!

Hey, it was a really good book!

I came home last Wednesday night from dance class. I tossed my keys onto some surface. Maybe the entertainment center, the coffee table, the couch, the dining room table, the kitchen counter, the top of the microwave.

I looked for it everywhere. Under the couch. In the couch. Behind and in between all the furniture. Shelves, counters, surfaces, drawers.

I retraced my steps through the house. Searched through all the usual places I had gone.

My husband said, "Did you look inside in the fridge?"

"No, and I'm not going to." I refuse to admit believe I would have done that.

Five days later, Webb Girl #1 says, "Mom, your keys are in my science book!"

I'm pretty sure they walked or crawled there. They were annoyed with being stuck inside my shoes during dance class.
